Description

Identifies a DNS client that queries infrastructure associated with two or more distinct Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) vendors during the same short rule window. Multiple RMM products on one endpoint can indicate attacker staging, redundant persistence, or unauthorized remote access.

Detection logic

Its licence does not clear it for publishing here

Sunturai publishes a detection's own text where the licence it arrived under has been reviewed and permits it, and Elastic License 2.0 has not. The query as its source wrote it, its canonical form and the hash that pins this revision are in the workspace record.

Detection requirements

Platform
LinuxmacOSWindows

The rule states no platform. This is derived from the ATT&CK technique it maps to.

Known benign triggers

  • Managed service provider, helpdesk, migration, software inventory, and lab systems may legitimately contact multiple RMM vendors. Recursive resolvers can aggregate queries from many endpoints and must be identified before treating the client IP as one asset.
