Description
Detects when SAML single sign-on (SSO) is disabled for a GitHub enterprise or organization. SAML SSO delegates authentication to an external identity provider (IdP) and lets administrators enforce IdP-side controls such as MFA, conditional access, and centralized deprovisioning. Disabling it removes those controls and allows members to authenticate with GitHub credentials alone. Following an account takeover, an adversary may disable SSO to evade IdP-enforced access policies and maintain access that survives IdP-side session revocation and deprovisioning, making this a high-impact identity-control change.
Detection logic
Its licence does not clear it for publishing here
Sunturai publishes a detection's own text where the licence it arrived under has been reviewed and permits it, and Elastic License 2.0 has not. The query as its source wrote it, its canonical form and the hash that pins this revision are in the workspace record.

The rule states no platform. This is derived from the 2 ATT&CK techniques it maps to.
Known benign triggers
- Planned identity provider (IdP) migration or SAML reconfiguration performed during an approved change window. Confirm the change against a ticket, keep a second owner session active, and re-enable SSO as soon as the new provider is ready.
MITRE ATT&CK mappings
0 exclusive techniques. This is coverage no other published rule has; it is not this rule's total technique count.
